September 2021On June 9, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported 172,011 arrests and apprehensions of illegal migrants in May 2021, almost seven times (697%) the 21,593 who were detained in May 2020.

Since October 1, 2020, beginning of the fiscal year, the number of illegal crossings totaled 897,213, up from 229,225 (291%) in the same period a year earlier.

The current year total includes 636,896 single adults, 78,513 migrant families, and 181,808 unaccompanied minors. Republican leaders who visited the border in late June painted a dismal picture of the crisis.

“We have no operational control, no legal control, no law enforcement of our border,” reported U.S. Rep. Bob Good (R-VA). “This is willful and intentional on the part of [the Biden] administration.”
