January-February 2021According to a Pew Research report released in early November, Christians face persecution worldwide more than any other religious group. The report also found government restrictions of religion to be at an all-time high. The vast majority of the persecution takes place in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and North Africa.

In a related story, Fox News reported that human rights advocates are warning that religious persecution against Christians in Nigeria is on the verge of genocide. Foreign policy analysts and religious leaders urged the international community to take notice and take action.

Fox News wrote, “More than 1,200 Nigerian Christians are estimated to have been slaughtered in the first six months of 2020, and in excess of 11,000 were murdered over the past five years – with scores still unaccounted for.”

Kidnapping, extortion, church burnings, rape, and murder are examples of commonplace persecution for Nigerian believers.
